Economic analysis of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) production in Northern Benin

Introduction Sesame is an important cash crop that can be grown with limited resources. In recent decades it has drawn interests of many researchers and developers. This study analyzed the economics ( Sesamum indicum L.) produced in northern region Republic Benin. Methods Structured questionnaire was used to gather primary data from 120 farmers who made up sample size were chosen using a multistage sampling technique. Data descriptive statistics, profitability analytical tools, multiple regression analysis Likert scale rating Profitability tools assess economic performance sesame production; model analyze factors determine output production area; 5-point technique utilized rank production's challenges according farmers' observations. Results The findings revealed mainly sole cropping system rotation other crops. net farm income showed farming profitable venture area. also like age, household size, rotation, capital input influence revenue production. While have beneficial significant on farms' produce, negative effect it. Amongst various constraints identified, most ones are access labor land, uneven ripening, lack storage facilities improved seed. Discussion Based these results, authorities agricultural sector should develop promote this value chain at national level as will greatly boost country's economy.
